All changes in our supplementary insurances in 2020

  • Change from 1 January 2020
Our customer satisfaction survey shows that, in the event of a serious accident, insured persons would like us to make health-care and other arrangements for them and provide coverage, i.e. customers want more than just coverage of costs. This has prompted us to replace the accident coverage in your Superfit plan with the health care and services provided under our new OntzorgPlus plan.

    What this means for you
If you take out OntzorgPlus, we will be there for you with personal assistance in the event that you have a serious accident, or if you have been diagnosed with a serious condition. OntzorgPlus will also cover several high costs that are commonly incurred in such emergency situations. OntzorgPlus coverage will be part of your Superfit plan from 1 January 2020.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

Our supplementary health-care plans, except for Tandfit and Wereldfit, include the aid for third-party claims service. In 2019, we offered this service in the event of an accident within Europe or in one of the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. In 2020, we will offer this service in the event of an accident within Europe, or in Morocco or Turkey.

The exclusion of the costs of recovery of damage or loss in criminal proceedings will cease to apply.

    What this means for you

If you have an accident in a non-European country, except for Morocco and Turkey, in 2020, you will not be able to rely on our aid for third-party claims service.

In cases of an accident in Europe, Morocco or Turkey, our aid for third-party claims will now also include assistance in recovering damage or loss through criminal proceedings.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

The Extrafit and higher supplementary health-care plans provide coverage for alternative/non-conventional medicine. As of 1 January 2020, we will lower the coverage limit for the Extrafit, Benfit and Optifit plans:

    • Extrafit: €30 per visit, up to €100
    • Benfit: €30 per visit, up to €250
    • Optifit: €65 per visit, up to €400 (incl. lab testing and registered medicines)

The coverage limits for the Topfit and Superfit plans remain unchanged.

    What this means for you

If you are planning to see a doctor or practitioner of alternative/non-conventional medicine for a consultation or treatment in 2020, and you have an Extrafit, Benfit or Optifit supplementary health-care plan, the coverage limit per calendar year will change for all consultations and treatments (Extrafit and Benfit), medicines and tests (Optifit) combined.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

On 1 January 2020, we will cease to cover neurofeedback as a form of alternative/non-conventional medicine provided by a health psychologist, clinical psychologist or psychotherapist. However, the basic health-care plan will still cover other health care provided by these health-care providers.

    What this means for you

If you believe that neurofeedback could be a good treatment option for you, please bear in mind that your supplementary health-care plan will not cover it in 2020.

If you are currently receiving neurofeedback treatment covered by your supplementary health-care plan for 2019, and this treatment is set to continue in 2020, please contact us for a suitable transitional arrangement.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

The Benfit and higher supplementary health-care plans cover foot care by a pedicurist in cases of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. From 1 January 2020, foot care provided by an allied health professional for chiropody will also be covered, provided that he or she is listed in the Register Paramedische Voetzorg.

    What this means for you

If your feet need extra care because you have diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis, and you have the Benfit or a higher supplementary health-care plan, you will also be able to go to an allied health professional for chiropody for foot care in 2020.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

The Benfit and higher supplementary health-care plans cover foot care by a pedicurist in cases of diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. As of 1 January 2020, pedicurists will be allowed to charge extra for home treatments. We do not provide coverage for these extra costs.

    What this means for you

If you have diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis and your pedicurist comes to your home to treat you, you will be charged extra in 2020. We do not cover these extra costs, regardless of whether or not you have the Benfit or a higher supplementary health-care plan. You can either pay these extra costs out of your own pocket, or go to the pedicurist’s practice for treatment.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

From 1 January 2020, we will no longer cover the costs of medicines that stimulate hair growth to treat male pattern baldness.

    What this means for you

If you have a supplementary health-care plan in 2020, it will no longer cover anti-hair loss medication, such as minoxidil lotion and finasteride 1mg tablets.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

In 2019, our Extrafit, Benfit and Optifit supplementary health-care plans provide coverage for bed-wetting alarm rental for a maximum of 3 months. In 2020, the rental period will no longer be subject to a maximum. The maximum coverage of €85 will still apply.

Topfit and Superfit provide full coverage for the rental of a bed-wetting alarm.

    What this means for you

If your child needs a bed-wetting alarm in 2020, and he or she has an Extrafit, Benfit or Optifit supplementary health-care plan, the rental period will no longer be limited to 3 months. The coverage will still be capped at €85.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

The Extrafit and higher supplementary health-care plans include coverage for preventive health-related courses recognised by us. As of 1 January 2020, we will cover 75% of the costs of first aid courses, up to the coverage limit of your supplementary health-care plan. On top of that, we will also cover 75% of a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course in 2020.

    What this means for you

If you want to take a first aid course in 2020, or a resuscitation course, and you have the Extrafit or a higher supplementary health-care plan, we will cover 75% of the costs up to the coverage limit of your supplementary health-care plan. From 2020, you can also take a first aid course that is focused on giving first aid to people with mental problems: MHFA.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

The basic health-care plan provides coverage for an abdominal correction in case of a demonstrable physical dysfunction. Our Optifit and higher supplementary health-care plans also cover certain types of plastic surgery in cases of physical dysfunction. The Optifit plan also made reference to abdominal correction in its coverage details. In light of the confusion this caused, abdominal correction has now been removed from the Optifit plan.

    What this means for you

If you suffer from a physical dysfunction as a result of an overlying abdominal wall, the basic health-care plan will cover an abdominal correction after we have given permission. This means that you will no longer need supplementary coverage under one of our supplementary health-care plans for such a procedure.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

During long periods of hospitalisation, the Benfit and higher supplementary health-care plans cover travel expenses for your family members to come and visit you. As of 1 January 2020, this coverage for travel expenses will be capped at 1 visit per day.

    What this means for you

If you have been in hospital for 8 days or longer, and you have the Benfit or a higher supplementary health-care plan, we will cover your visiting family members’ travel expenses at a rate of €0.27 per kilometre in 2020. We will cover travel expenses for 1 visit per day.

  • Change from 1 January 2020

If you spend time abroad while you are pregnant, we will consider any health care you receive in relation to your pregnancy or childbirth to be planned health care. This means that you will not be able to rely on supplementary coverage for emergency care. The Wereldfit plan does provide coverage for health care needed to deal with complications that could not have been anticipated before you travelled abroad.

Wereldfit will not cover costs if there are certain risk factors with respect to your health related to your pregnancy or the area you are travelling to.

    What this means for you

If you plan to go abroad while pregnant, you should bear in mind that childbirth-related health care can be more expensive there than in the Netherlands. For a normal birth without complications, we will not cover these extra costs. The Wereldfit plan will not provide any coverage at all if a heightened risk of complications existed when you travelled abroad, such as when a health risk had already been identified before you left or when travelling to an area where the Zika virus is known to be active.

Be sure to contact one of our ZorgConsulent advisers before travelling abroad to avoid unpleasant surprises.
