Changes 2020

Lower collective discount in 2020

If you take out a health-care plan through your employer or join another collective plan, you will often get a discount on your health-care premium. Sounds logical, right? But according to the government, people who are not insured on a collective plan end up shouldering the costs of these discounts and that’s not fair. Health insurers are therefore going to have to reduce the collective discount rates they offer from 1 January.

What else will change

On 1 January 2020, the government’s stricter requirements for health-care arrangements within collective health-care plans will also take effect. These arrangements help customers (gradually) adopt a healthier lifestyle, and incur fewer health-care costs as a result. The government has tightened the rules because they believe that the value added by these arrangements is currently often not clear. Based on these arrangements, a health insurer can offer a maximum discount of 5% on the basic health-care plan.

What this means for you

Next year, the discount you can get on your basic health-care plan will be capped at 5%. Please note: the exact level of your discount depends on the arrangements with your collective plan administrator. In a year’s time, the government will assess whether the discount needs to come down further or can stay the same. We realise that it’s disappointing to see your discount reduced because of this government measure, and so we at ONVZ will do whatever we can to compensate you by keeping our premiums down as much as possible. After all, we are a non-profit association. We have no shareholders to please, and everything we do at ONVZ is done with the best interests of our customers in mind.
