Changes in supplementary health-care plans
-
Maximum reimbursements for physiotherapy have changed
With ONVZ, you can choose your own physiotherapist for your treatment. If you visit a non-contracted physiotherapist for health care under your supplementary health-care plan, you’ll need to bear in mind the maximum reimbursements. We change these reimbursements every year. Check out the new maximum reimbursements for physiotherapy at onvz.nl/maximale-vergoedingen. Using our Zorgzoeker search tool, you can see whether your physiotherapist has a contract with us.

Changes to recognised professional organisations for alternative/non-conventional health care
Our ONVZ Vrije Keuze Startfit and higher supplementary health-care cover alternative/non-conventional health care if the practitioner is a member of a professional organisation recognised by us. As of 1 January 2026, the following seven professional organisations will no longer be recognised:
- NVO: Nederlandse Vereniging Osteopathie [Dutch Association of Osteopathy]
- BETTEL: Beroepsvereniging Trainers & Therapeuten Emotioneel Lichaamswerk [Dutch Professional Association of Emotional Body Work Trainers & Therapists]

New quality requirements for skin therapists and beauticians
The ONVZ Vrije Keuze Startfit, Bentfit, Optifit, Topfit en Superfit supplementary health-care plans reimburse oedema or scar therapy by a skin therapist. Sometimes they also reimburse skin therapy, such as acne treatment, cosmetic camouflage instruction or epilation. As of 1 January 2026, the skin therapist must be quality registered in the Kwaliteitsregister Paramedici (Quality Register for Allied Health Professionals) and the beautician in the SKIN-register or the HUIDPRO-register.
To give health-care providers enough time to complete their registration, we will also still reimburse treatments in 2026 if the skin therapist is registered with the NVH and the beautician with ANBOS or De Huidprofessional. We will stop doing this in 2027.
-
Reimbursement for carer relief is being extended
As of 1 January 2026, there will be more options to request carer relief, such as once a week or once a month. The reimbursement per calendar year will be increased to €1,000 for ONVZ Vrije Keuze Benfit, €2,000 for ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit, €3,000 for ONVZ Vrije Keuze Topfit and €4,000 for ONVZ Vrije Keuze Superfit. This ensures that carers have more options to prevent overburdening themselves.

Reimbursement for online sleep coaching for babies
As of 1 January 2026, the ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit and higher supplementary health-care plans will also reimburse online sleep coaching for babies at slaaptipsvoorbaby.nl. This comes under the ‘Preventive health-related courses’ coverage.

In addition to wigs, alternative headwear will also be reimbursed
If you have a medical indication for a wig, but would prefer a different type of headwear like a hat or scarf, this alternative headwear will also be reimbursed by the ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit and higher supplementary health-care plans from 1 January 2026. You can use the personal contribution reimbursement for medical appliances for this.
-
Reimbursement of personal contribution for full stay in a hospice
The ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit and Topfit supplementary health-care plans currently reimburse the personal contribution for staying in a hospice up to a maximum of three months. This may cause additional stress in a period that is already very difficult. As of 1 January 2026, the reimbursement of the personal contribution will therefore be for the full stay in the hospice.
-
Reimbursement of treatment by hormone consultant
The ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit and higher supplementary health-care plans reimburse treatments provided for menopause-related symptoms. Hormone changes may also cause symptoms at other stages of life. As of 1 January 2026, these supplementary health-care plans will therefore also reimburse consultations with a Care for Women hormone consultant and two digital 12-week Care for Women programmes.
-
Waiting period for shingles vaccination
As of 1 January 2026, ONVZ Vrije Keuze Benfit will no longer reimburse shingles vaccinations.
As of 1 January 2026, ONVZ Vrije Keuze Optifit, Topfit and Superfit will have a waiting period for reimbursement of shingles vaccinations. This means that the vaccination will only be reimbursed if that supplementary health-care plan was taken out more than 12 months ago. You can find out more about waiting periods at onvz.nl/wachttijd. If you’ve had your Optifit, Topfit or Superfit plan for more than 12 months and you’re not changing anything for 2026, nothing will change for you.
