Changes to the basic health-care plan
-
Compulsory excess
The statutory compulsory excess will remain the same. It will be €385 for 2026 too.
More information about the excess.General practitioners can consult medical specialists more easily
From 1 January 2026, your general practitioner or medical specialist will be able to claim the costs of a consultation. This will make it easier for your GP to seek advice from a medical specialist. In some cases, this means you will no longer need to be referred to a medical specialist and treatment can simply take place at your GP's surgery. By working together more closely, we can keep healthcare accessible and improve its quality. You will not have to pay any excess for a consultation, even if your medical specialist submits the claim.
-
Statutory personal contributions
Certain types of health care, medicines or medical appliances are subject to a statutory personal contribution. The government decides the amount of this personal contribution, as well as the kinds of health care to which it applies. The government is changing the statutory personal contributions for 2026. You will find these on our Statutory personal contribution page from 12 November 2025. It concerns the following types of care:
• Medicines
• Medical appliances
• Dental health care
• Antenatal/post-natal care
• Medical transportation -
Expansion of stop-smoking programmes
Currently, your basic health-care plan covers one programme aimed at quitting smoking (including nicotine replacements and medicines) per year. From 1 January 2026, this coverage will be expanded and you will be reimbursed for a maximum of three stop smoking programmes (including nicotine replacements and medicines) per year.

Reimbursement for adults with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA)
Do you have axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) with severe functional limitations, meaning you need help with simple daily activities such as walking or personal care? Remedial therapy supervised by a physiotherapist or remedial therapist can help prevent serious deterioration. From 1 January 2026, this care will be reimbursed by the basic health-care plan from the first treatment.
Your healthcare provider will determine how many treatments you need. For care covered by the basic health-care plan, you will always have to pay your excess first.
These changes also apply to the ONVZ Vrije Keuze Basic health-care plan.
